Choosing a chauffeur service in Frankfurt: 8 criteria that really matter

Dozens of companies offer chauffeur service in Frankfurt – from one-man operations to booking platforms to international chains. From the outside the websites look alike. These eight criteria separate the reputable providers from the ones that leave you waiting at the airport.
1. Passenger transport licence and permit
Every chauffeur carrying paying passengers in Germany needs the passenger transport licence (section 48 of the driving licence regulation) – the “P-Schein”, including a medical examination and criminal record check. The company needs a permit for hire-car transport under the Passenger Transport Act. Ask for both; a reputable provider names them without hesitation.
2. Insurance and legal notice
Commercial passenger transport requires appropriate liability insurance for vehicle and passengers. Also check the legal notice: full company name, commercial register number, VAT ID and an address in the region. If that is missing, more usually is.
3. Fixed price before the ride – in writing
A reputable chauffeur service states the price before the ride and confirms it in text form, including VAT and with a clear statement of what is included: waiting time, kilometre scope, flight tracking. “Price by effort” or surcharges first mentioned in the car are a deal-breaker.
4. Own fleet instead of anonymous brokering
Platforms broker rides to subcontractors you do not know – vehicle class and chauffeur are then a matter of chance. Ask whether the company operates its own vehicles and which: model, year, colour. A black Mercedes fleet with E-, S- and V-Class is the standard to measure against.
5. Reachable around the clock
Flights land at 11:40 p.m., appointments move at 6 a.m. A chauffeur service that has only voicemail outside office hours is useless for business travellers. Test it: call once in the evening.
6. Reviews you can verify
Stars on a company’s own website prove nothing. Check the Google Business Profile: number of reviews, time span, whether the provider replies, whether the texts are specific. A profile with a few hundred reviews over several years cannot be faked.
7. Published cancellation and waiting rules
How long can I cancel free of charge? How much waiting time is included at the airport? What does waiting beyond that cost? Reputable providers answer this in their terms before you have to ask. As a benchmark: free cancellation up to 24 hours before and 60 minutes of waiting after landing are a good standard.
8. Invoicing and payment methods
For corporate clients a proper invoice with VAT must be a given, for private clients the choice between card, cash and invoice. Anyone who accepts cash only usually has a reason – and it is rarely a good one.
The checklist in one sentence
Licence and permit, insurance and legal notice, written fixed price, own fleet, reachable 24/7, verifiable reviews, published cancellation and waiting rules, proper invoice – if a chauffeur service in Frankfurt meets all eight points, you can book with confidence.
